Hi! I’m Tony Anczer, a resident of Dyer Indiana and also a St. John IN Real Estate Agent serving Northwest Indiana and Illinois. Checkout my 8 Best Things To Do In St. John Indiana blog post!
St. John has a number of great parks. The biggest park in St. John (by quantity of playground equipment), and park I would take my kids to the most when they were in their younger years is Prairie West Park located at 9359 W Oakridge Dr., St. John IN 46373, or most people call it “the park on 93rd,” or as my family would call it “the park where we had Wyatt’s birthday party. Although this park is great, the park I’m reporting as the best park is Heron Lake Park, located at 11960 Osage Dr., St. John, IN 46363. The reason I’m reporting this park as the best park in St. John is becuse it has a splash pad, a sledding hill, and nice playground equipment. The splash pad is a hit with younger kids on hot summer days.
Texas Roadhouse is our go-to casual restaurant in Dyer. Food quality is high, prices are fair, and we enjoy the atmosphere. For our family of 4, with tip, is about $75

If you’ve never had Coldstone Ice Cream, its a treat. Instead of having premade flavors of ice cream, they make the ice cream on a “cold stone”. So, if you ordered cookie dough ice cream, they would start with vanilla ice cream and mix in the cookie dough pieces (and anything else).

Stardust Bowl is the only bowling alley in Dyer. They have quite a few lanes, a kitchen, a bar, and an arcade. If you are looking for a state of the art bowling alley and arcade, checkout “Up Your Alley” in Schererville.

We used to prefer Pheasant Hills park as our favorite park in Dyer, or possibly the park by St. Margaret Mercy hospital, but the Town of Dyer replaced and added playground equipment at Northgate Park, and its now really nice. There are also walking trails, a pavilion you can rent out, tennis courts, and ball fields.

In the NW Indiana region there are 3 ice skating venues: one in Hammond, one in Valparaiso, and one in St. John IN. Midwest is located at 10600 White Oak Ave., Dyer IN 46311, website of midwesttrainingandice.com,
whiterhinoonline.com, and phone number 219-558-8811. Midwest Training & Ice Center has open skate times, ice hockey programs, gymnastics instruction, food court, and a small arcade. My daughter took gymnastics at Midwest and we thought the instruction was good. There is also a park and walking trail on the same property.
As a resident of St. John, we find that Target is our main go-to shopping venue. My wife especially enjoys the “Target Pickup” where you use the Target app to order your goods, and then when you leave your house to pick up your order you enter in the app that you are leaving your home to pickup your order, then when you get to Target you park in the “Pickup” parking spaces and the staff brings you your order. Target has groceries and standard home goods and all the typical Target stuff.
Target is located at 9885 Wicker Ave., St. John, IN 46373, website of target.com/sl/st-john/2048, and phone number 219-365-8162.
Jewel-Osco is our go-to full grocery store. Walts gorcery store is also an option. When you need a store that will have anything you could need, Jewel is the best option in Dyer. When it comes to stocking up on groceries, we find ourselves going to Merrillville to Costco, Meijer, and Aldi.
