Day 1 – Drive from NW Indiana to New York

Day 1 consisted of :

      • Driving to New York

      • Checking into hotel

      • Learning how the subway system works

      • Checking out Times Square

    On day one we left home at about 3:00am. Momma Lisa (what we like to call my wife) is a “no stopping” road warrior, so we stick to minimal stops on the way.

    We made a couple quick bathroom stops (which we do at NASCAR pit stop speed due to Momma Lisa’s whip-cracking 😂), and then one relaxed stop at Chic-fil-a. )In my mind a value meal should still be $6.00, so an average of $15.00/person still puzzles me, but I digress…)

    Despite some uncertainty on if we were on the right exits a few times, we traversed downtown New York unscathed. Praise the Lord for Google Maps! I couldn’t imagine trying to make that drive with paper maps. 🚗

      City Cruises Tour

      From online research we read that standing on the right (starboard) side of the boat will give you the best views. There are bathrooms on the ferry (and good thing too, because the bathrooms at the loading area was closed! 😬)

      As you walk into the Museum, there is a 10 minute free movie on 3 screens. So, each movie is 10 minutes and then you move rooms to the next video.

      Some movie takeaways: the statue was built in France, and then disassembled, packed into 200 crates, and brought to the United States. In 1886 the statue was complete; At the base of the Statue of Liberty are broken shackles to signify the end of slavery in the United States;

      The Gift Shop at Statue of Liberty

      Following are photos from the 4 corners of the gift shop. There are also clean bathrooms in the gift shop.
